Monday BLOG: 7/19/10
Men acquire a particular quality by constantly acting a particular way... you become just by performing just actions, temperate by performing temperate actions, brave by performing brave actions.
- Aristotle
Apologies for the missing BLOGS. Life comes at you fast from time to time. But, here we are, approaching the end of July. The summer so far? Interesting ...
Often, it seems, I feel like a small ant, being held under the big magnifying glass from above. But, I have to remember that all things work for some sort of purpose, be it understood or not. It's easy to ask myself if all this work and dedication to this "music thing" is actually worth it. But, it's much easier to ask myself in reply "Would you truly rather be back where you were?".
I'm not sure that I've ever understood or had a grasp on the expression "fight the good fight". I just know that I'm fighting, and hoping that it's a good one. My father raised me to earn everything that I wanted. Success. Respect. Happiness. He taught me to earn it.
So, here I am, dreaming of catching that one, big 'break'. Writing songs, performing songs, promoting songs...trying to earn recognition. Trying to earn someone's ear, hoping that they hear the hard work coming through.
I believe in what I'm doing, in what I'm working on. I believe in the people I've surrounded myself with. I believe in this band. And I believe in your support.
Thanks for reading a more-serious-than-usual Monday BLOG ....

People in every direction ...My friends, how have you been? I hope the world is treating you well. During this 'down time' for non-baseball fans, rest easy: the college football season is just a few weeks away. In the meantime, try these activities to help pass the time:
1. Spam sandwich - fix it, sell it, thank me later
2. Watch paint dry on a wall...with 3-D goggles!
3. Slap someone's grandma with a rubber chicken
4. Apologize for #3
5. Listen to Taylor Corum, Kyle Tallman, Parachute Musical, Michael Tolcher, Gabe Dixon Band, Moot Booxle, The Well Reds, and me. Boom bam
Thanks for the feedback on the new songs 'Reach' and 'Live Loud, Love Hard'. Brad and I decided to debut these last week at our acoustic gig in Nashville. The response has been great. You guys and gals are too kind. In case you haven't seen/heard these new songs:
http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1380471308768
http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1380457668427
We're anxious to debut these at the next full band show, along with some other new songs. The fall tour can't get here soon enough.
Again, another solid month of iTunes sales. Our friends & fans are amazing. Thank you so much for believing in the music we create and share. And thank you for sharing the music with your friends.
Soapbox Moment:
We demonize Tiger Woods for not only his off the course behavior (which may be somewhat warranted, but who are we to judge?), but also for his demeanor and actions ON the course. Just because he doesn't chat up the young folks in the gallery or give away autographed visors to the old ladies during a tournament DOESN'T make him a villain. We CHEERED when Michael Jordan got in his "zone" during games. We LOVE it when Tom Brady or Kobe Bryant ignore fans, media, etc. The American Sports Fan: Hypocrite, extraordinaire.
Nice segue to -
ASK A QUESTION TIME
"What's your favorite part of the songwriting process?"
- Great question. I think the moment when someone comes up to me and says 'Hey, that song meant a lot to me'...THAT'S when I know the process is complete. So, that's my favorite.
"I've always wondered how hard it is to sing/perform to a room full of people talking and not paying attention to the show?"
- Unfortunately, there are nights where this is the case. Doesn't matter if its the nicest or worst venue, it happens to everyone, and it will happen again. It can be discouraging if I allow it to be. My goal is perform each and every song as if it's the last time I'll ever play that song for a set of ears.
"World Cup...who ya got?"
- I'm not in to rugby all that much.
"What is your favorite lyric/line of all time?"
- Wow... incredibly tough question. I'll go with 'If, at all, God's gaze upon us falls, it's with a mischievous grin...'
"Who wins in a fight between John Mayer and Justin Bieber, and why?"
- First, why are they fighting? Secondly, I'm taking Lance Armstrong. Why? ...he's Lance freakin' Armstrong.
You've got questions, I've got answers. Submit your inquiries about anything and everything to me via Twitter or Facebook, and I'll answer a few each week here in the BLOG.
Til next time...stay hungry, my peeps.

Monday BLOG: 6/21/10
Greetings, loved ones.Sorry...I've seen that new Katy Perry video with Snoop Dogg one too many times. That intro cracks me every time. It's good to be back. Sorry for the lack of BLOG entries. Life is nuts. Cashews, even.
So, the Celtics lost in 7 to the Lakers. If you keep up with me via Twitter or Facebook, you know where I stand on this. And in case you're wondering, yes: I truly despise the Lakers. Is it football season yet?
A small break from the, uh...break this week. Brad and I are doing an acoustic show in Nashville, TN Wednesday night at Red Rooster. My good friend, and fellow artist, Jessica Dawn is hosting a writer's night, and we'll be rocking the 8 o'clock slot. Playing 5 or 6 songs, looking forward to a fun night. Plus, we're thinking of....don't tell anyone, ok?.....we're thinking of debuting a couple of the new songs Wednesday night. Boom bam. More details on the SHOWS page here.
How about an iPhone/Android app with your boy? Sound cool? Sound delicious? Smell fine? Well, the crew at Level 2 Design are cooking up something cool. Hope to have more details on that real soon. It's about to get real in here. Or...something...I don't know, it sounds cool when other people say it.
I want to show some love for a few bands/artists that I think you should keep track of. Do a search on your favorite social network or the Google machine device mechanism and check out:
Parachute Musical
Kyle Tallman
Taylor Corum
The Well Reds
Michael Tolcher
when lucy fell
Tyler Melashenko
Moot Booxle
Thank me later. And, who's getting the new album by The Roots this week? Really anxious about this.
ASK A QUESTION TIME
Here we go. Let's see what we got:
"Travis-how did the band meet?"
- I met Tyler Huff while working on the Not Broken Yet album. He did some bass work for Shed 55 Studios, so we brought him in to lay down some grooves. We clicked instantly. Tyler had played in a band with Daniel Holland for several years, and he introduced the two of us. Dan is a tremendous drummer. Again, there was a definite "click". Brad Jones and I have known each other since 2003. He married one of my best friends, but we never played music together until 2009. Odd, huh? But, Brad has provided that "missing link" we were searching for. I'm very fortunate to have the pleasure of being in a band with these three.
"When do you feel is the best time to propose?"
- ...supposedly
"Do you feel lucky?"
- Someone watched Dirty Harry a few too many times. But, yea...sure. I feel lucky. A little bit.
"Is Tyler single?"
- (yes, this was a serious question) Uh, well...that depends on which day of the week you ask.
"Are you coming to North or South Carolina soon?"
- We're working on it, my friend. Details to come.
You've got questions, I've got answers. Submit your Q's via Twitter or Facebook. I'll share a few each week here in the BLOG.
Thanks so much for your love and support, my friends. See you sooner than later ...

Monday BLOG: 5/7/10
Celtics!!!!!!Ha ha! Good Monday to you, my fine friends. You could say I'm a little happy about last night's NBA Finals game 2. Got a little hatred in my heart for the Lakers. Can't help it. Rondo and Allen were men possessed last night. Keep it up, C's.
On to more relevant things. I really enjoy Snapple Peach Tea. And Mango Madness.
Now...REALLY on to more relevant things. Shows shows shows! The summer break may be here, but the fall schedule is lining up quickly. We're in the process of finalizing 8 or 9 more dates, including a few other college campus shows, but be sure and check out the SHOWS section here at the homepage to see some of the already scheduled dates for September.
Here's a list for ya:
Breathe
Reaching
The War Within
Live Loud, Love Hard
"Sex Panther"
Make Your Move
"What's that, T.S.?" In time, my friends. In time.....You can add 3 other more familiar names to that list, if you'd like =)
My weekly annoyance this week: Facebook Negative Nancies. I don't get good vibes during my daily Facebooking when all I have to read is everyone's 'woe is me' scenarios. And honestly, people just put too much information out there via Facebook. It's the the internet, kids. Not freshman year of high school.
Which segues right into this week's ASK A QUESTION TIME:
"Travis - I love your songs Out Of My League and Gracie. Why don't you play them at your live shows?"
...... The offices of Taylor Corum and Kyle Tallman were busy with funny stuff this week, I see *sigh*
"How long has the band been together?"
- Daniel and Tyler have been with me for well over a year now. Brad is creeping up on one year of being with us, too. We're really starting to find our groove, so to speak. I'm very grateful to have them on board now.
"You're stranded on an island and can take 3 albums..."
- Tough one. Today? 'Throwing Copper' (Live), 'Before The Crowded Streets (DMB), 'Automatic For The People' (REM)
"You said you're afraid of snakes in a recent BLOG entry. Was that made up for laughs?"
- Absolutely not. I'm TERRIFIED of snakes.
"Is it better to love and be hurt, or to have never loved at all?"
- Of course
You've got questions, I've got answers. Each week, I'll pick a few to share and answer with you here in the Monday BLOG. Submit via email (travis@travissingleton.com) or via Twitter (@travissingleton).
Hope your weeks goes in a fantastic manner.

Monday BLOG - 5.24 + New Pics
Greetings, my friends! I hope this Monday finds you on top of the world and on top of all the other things that you need to be on top of. We're back with Monday BLOG after last week's absence. So, rest easy and breathe a sigh of relief.Just to get it out of the way, I've been on the Boston Celtics bandwagon since they signed Kevin Garnett. So, I am one excited guy about how the NBA playoffs have been going. Boom bam. Now, if my 'Canes can have a good year when the football season gets here......
Thanks for the feedback over at Facebook on they lyrics I've been sharing recently. I'm so excited to get these new songs finished and to begin working on them with the band. It's always a good feeling to have when you can sense that your songwriting is evolving. I feel good about these new ideas. For the record: I will never conform when it comes to the things I choose to write about. Puppy dogs, ice cream, and girls being awesome are not the subject matter of my tunes. Period.
The band's hiatus has come sooner than expected. The show in Franklin, TN this weekend has been canceled by the venue, thus beginning our summer break. We're getting new songs ready for the fall tour, and we're gearing up for the new studio project. Like the commercial says, "stay thirsty my friends". Shows are already being booked for late August on into September, so get excited!
A short version of:
ASK A QUESTION TIME !
"Travis - do you have a favorite place to eat in Nashville?"
- Sal's Pizza. My stomach hates me a few hours afterward, but it's so amazingly good.
"Who does your online design work? The website and MySpace pages are SHARP!"
- Thanks so much. Level 2 Design (level2d.com) handles ALL our graphic design work. Both albums, myspace layout, website design, tour posters, t-shirts...These guys rock!
"Do you really get a question involving Batman each week?"
- I have TONS of questions about Batman, actually. Lots to choose from.
"Who would win in a fight: Batman or Chuck Norris?"
- ...yikes
"What is your biggest fear?"
- Snakes. And the Yeti
You've got questions, I've got answers. Each week I'll answer a few here in the Monday BLOG. Submit them by email at travis@travissingleton.com or via Twitter (@travissingleton).
Be sure and check out the new photos from the band's performance in Chattanooga, TN in the PHOTOS section. Thanks again to Nate Johnson and Level 2 Design. See ya next week!

Monday BLOG 5.10.10
Happy Birthday to my dad today. My one, true hero. I swear he's ageless. Doesn't look a day over 35, if that. Thanks for being awesome, MLS.Apologies for the lateness of this week's BLOG. The natives were getting restless. Sometimes, as hard as it is to believe, the Monday BLOG succumbs to its own case of the Monday's. But, I digress...
So...we're hitting the studio. There. I said it. The cat is out of the satchel. Sorta. We're in some VERY early stages of planning new recording sessions and getting some of the new material to you. The current plan is to release 'Breathe' as a digital single through iTunes, CD Baby, Rhapsody, etc. by the end of the summer. Then, we hope to build 8 or 9 more songs around that and release a brand new album in the early part of 2011.
Again, all this is very "pre-production" stage, but the wheels are certainly in motion. We're going to be pitching these new songs to various college radio stations throughout the south/southeast, as well as submitting the new material to several television and film licensing opportunities. Needless to say, we are going to make these recordings sound the absolute BEST. If you want to help support us and help with ideas/suggestions/donations, please email me at travis@travissingleton.com . Anything and everything from you, our friends & fans, will go a long way. Get excited!
Haven't seen Iron Man 2 yet. It's on the agenda. As will be the new Robin Hood movie. And Sex and the City 2. What? Did I say something wrong?
Big Sexy (Tyler Huff - bassist) has been in Philadelphia for the last few days. But, he did want me to mention that he was glad to help out with 'Ask A Question Time'. So, if you've got Q's for him, feel free to submit those, as well. Brad and Daniel ? Well...they're very private guys. And they hit me. Which brings us to...
'ASK A QUESTION TIME'
"Travis - boxers or briefs?"
- I have a boxer-bulldog. Love her. Briefs? As in, briefcases? I've never owned one. Odd question.
"Do you have a favorite song from each album?"
- Hard to answer. It varies. But, today? ... Baby Steps from AFTR and Burn from NBY.
"Who were some of the bands/artists that influenced you when you first learning guitar?"
- It was around '95/'96 when I first started playing. And I was BIG into the grunge music scene. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Live, Bush ... some of my favorite music to this day. Dave Matthews Band, Jim Croce, Peter Gabriel....too many to list.
"How much time do you spend writing a set list?"
- Not enough. Ask Brad.
"Batman vs. Aquaman ... who wins?"
- This is a joke, right? *deep sigh*
"Is it hard to write a 'good' love song?"
- Supposedly.
You got questions, I've got answers. Every week, send 'em my way, either through Twitter (@travissingleton) or by email at travis@travissingleton.com. Boom bam.
Short and sweet this week. Thanks for all the love and support you show. It means more than I can tell you. Til next time ....

Nashville Postponed
We are saddened by the devastating effects caused by the severe weather in the Nashville, TN area during this last weekend. Belmont University has suffered water and electrical damage to portions of the campus in downtown Nashville. We place high priority on the safety and well-being of others, and we understand that in times such as these, a music performance should be the least of someone's worries.
Tomorrow night's scheduled performance at the Curb Cafe on Belmont's campus has been postponed until further notice. Our thoughts are with those who have suffered loss due to the flooding and severe weather.
